Futures Trading Risk Disclosure

Futures trading involves substantial risk of loss and is not suitable for every investor. AbsoluteGreed provides education, market context and peer discussion for futures traders. It does not provide investment advice, trade signals or recommendations to buy or sell anything. Every trading decision you make is your own, and so is the risk.

The risks of trading futures

  • Leverage cuts both ways. A futures contract controls far more value than the margin it requires. A small move against you can wipe out your margin, and you can lose more than you deposited.
  • Losses can be fast. Prices can gap past your stop, especially around scheduled economic releases, at the open and overnight. A stop order is not a guarantee that you’ll exit at your price.
  • Day trading is hard. Most people who day trade futures lose money. Commissions, exchange fees, data fees and slippage add up and work against you on every trade.
  • Technology fails. Platforms freeze, data feeds lag and connections drop, often at the worst moment. Have a plan for when they do.
  • Prop firm evaluations carry their own risk. Evaluation and activation fees are usually non-refundable, and the rules vary by firm, change often and are structured by the nature of prop firms to make reaching a payout extremely difficult. Read the current terms of any firm before you pay.

Only trade with money you can afford to lose.

What AbsoluteGreed is, and is not

  • Not personalized advice. Everything we publish, including the morning brief, articles, the Manifesto and Boot Camp, is general and standardized. None of it is tailored to your account, finances or goals.
  • No trade calls. No one at AbsoluteGreed, GrimTrader included, tells members what or when to trade. Members discuss ideas with each other, and those views are their own.
  • Post-mortems look backward. Reviews of a member’s trades, whether by people or by @TheAuditor, judge decisions already made. They are not instructions for the next trade.
  • Registration. [AbsoluteGreed and GrimTrader are not registered with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) or the National Futures Association (NFA) as a commodity trading advisor.] If you want advice about your own situation, talk to a licensed professional.

Tools, data and AI content

  • Indicators and templates in The Armory are provided as-is, without warranty. They are tools for analysis, not trading systems, and they can contain bugs. Test anything new on a simulated account before trading it live.
  • Market data and levels in the brief and elsewhere come from third-party sources and our own charts, and they can be delayed, incomplete or wrong. Verify against your own platform.
  • AI-generated content is used for the morning brief, thread summaries, post-mortems and post moderation, and it can contain errors. Treat it as a starting point for your own judgment, never as a substitute for it.

Results and examples

  • Member results are not typical. Wins and losses that members share on the floor are their own, unverified, and may not be representative of the experience of other members. They are no guarantee of future performance or success.
  • Examples are examples. Charts, trades and briefs shown on this site to illustrate a concept are labeled as examples. They are not records of actual trading unless clearly stated.
  • Past performance does not guarantee future results.

Hypothetical and simulated performance

Wherever we show backtested, simulated or hypothetical results, the following CFTC Rule 4.41 compliance statement applies:

These results are based on simulated or hypothetical performance results that have certain inherent limitations. Unlike the results shown in an actual performance record, these results do not represent actual trading. Also, because these trades have not actually been executed, these results may have under-or over-compensated for the impact, if any, of certain market factors, such as lack of liquidity. Simulated or hypothetical trading programs in general are also subject to the fact that they are designed with the benefit of hindsight. No representation is being made that any account will or is likely to achieve profits or losses similar to these being shown.
